Day 3: Sneem, Ireland
July 23, 2007 After a fantastic breakfast, which included eggs and Irish soda bread, we attended a talk given by Batt Burns about the many connections between Ireland and the US. About 30% of our group have Irish ancestry. One interesting fact is that Ireland has a corporate tax of only 12%, while the tax in most other European countries is 20%. As a result, many of the people born in Ireland can grow up and stay in Ireland since so many companies are based there (Dell and Price Waterhouse are a couple of examples). In the past, most families were separated because children couldn't grow up and find jobs in the country.
